In his presentation "Meetings as partial organizations and the problem of consensus" Christoph Haug will bridge the two fields of investigation, on the hand seeing meetings as arenas that constitute a social movement infrastructure between organization, network, and institution (published in Org. Studies 34(5-6) pp. 705-732), while on the other hand arguing that "consensus decision-making in meetings as an interactive accomplishment" (presented at the EGOS colloquium 2013).

The link between the two papers is that (partial) organization is a decided order, i.e. based on decisions which are (often) made in consensus at meetings. At the seminar Christohp Haug will discuss the question how decisions can be made (i.e. how can we get organized) without drawing on prior organization? Is that really possible?

Christoph Haug is a researcher at the Department of Sociology and Work Science at the University of Gothenburg and the Gothenburg Centre of Globalization and Development (GCGD). Previously he worked at the Social Science Research Center (WZB) in Berlin. His doctoral thesis at Freie Universität Berlin concerned "Discursive decision-making on meetings of the global justice movements."

His research revolves around the themes of organization, globalization, and social movements with a special focus on communication.
