Göran Sundström is Professor of Political Science and Head of Department. His research is on public administration and administrative reform, core executives, the role of civil servants in a transformed state, the Europeanization of nation states, governance and institutional theory.

His most recent books are Megaprojektet Nya Karolinska Solna. Beslutsprocesserna bakom en sjukvårdsreform (Makadam, 2021), Tjugofem år av gemenskap – statsförvaltningen och Europeiska unionen (Sieps, 2020) and Statlig förvaltningspolitik för 2020-talet. En forskningsantologi (Statskontoret, 2020). The first is co-edited with Maria Grafström and Martin Qvist and deals with the decisions behind the megaproject of planning, building, starting up and running the hospital Nya Karolinska Solna (NKS). The second one is co-authored with Bengt Jacobsson and discusses how the Swedish state administration has been affected by Sweden’s 25 years of membership in the EU. The third one is co-edited with Peter Ehn and deals with contemporary developments and problems within administrative reform policy. In 2019 he also co-edited the book Granskningssamhället – offentliga verksamheter under lupp (Studentlitteratur, 2019) which examines how control activities have evolved and changed within different policy areas in Sweden from 1990 to present day.
